WASTE NOT ARIZONA
Almost every morning at 6:30am, an army of trucks hit the Phoenix streets. They go to places like Chipotle Mexican Grill, Chino Bandido, Olive Garden, and even Starbucks to pick up surplus food and get it to places where they can feed thousands of people. The program is called Waste Not and it processes an average of 5,000 pounds of excess perishable food daily from restaurants, resorts, caterers, grocers, and various food purveyors – food that would otherwise be thrown away. They deliver the food the same day to more than 100 diverse agencies that feed the hungry including schools, after-school programs, daycare centers, rehabilitation centers, transition homes, and senior facilities.
The Arizona Taco Festival proudly supports Waste Not and pledges to donate a portion of its proceeds to this worthwhile cause. If for some reason, our attendees do not devour every single taco at the October 9 festival, we will round-up the excess and load up a Waste Not truck for the benefit of those less fortunate. Salsa for everybody!
